The nation we now call Colombia is the indirect successor state to Gran Colombia. The independence of Gran Colombia was secured after the Venezuelan War of Independence led by Simón Bolívar. This war lasted for a longer period of time than the Bolivian War of Independence, also led by Simón Bolívar.
Majority of Colombians are Spanish Mestizo Catholics. Spanish is also the nation's only official language.
Colombian cuisine specialities include aborrajado
( deep - fried plantains stuffed with cheese ). Colombian cuisine also has unique sausages and sauces not found in any other cuisines.

Fun fact about Colombia: Colombia is currently facing a civil war called the Colombian conflict. This civil war has lasted for almost 6 decades. So far, it is the longest civil war in South American history.
