Panama is the only Bolivarian country not in South America. It is also one of the only 2 Central American nations that were never part of the Republics of Central America, along with Belize, a Commonwealth Realm.

Panama gained independence from the Spanish in the same war as Colombia and Ecuador.

It remained part of Gran Colombia throughout its entire existence and remained part of Granada and Colombia until 1903. It is the youngest Bolivarian country.

Just like the other Bolivarian nations, majority of Panamanians are Catholic Mestizos.

Rice, beans, plantains and cassava roots are popular in Panamanian cuisine.
