Venezuela gained independence in the same war as Ecuador, Panama and Colombia. The then - young nation opted to join Gran Colombia in 1819 but would not last long in the Colombian republic and would leave just 11 years later. The nation has faced 4 civil wars and 11 revolutions and rebellions since 1835.
Majority of Venezuelans are European Catholics, unlike in the other 5 Bolivarian nations where Catholic Mestizos are the largest ethnoreligious group.
Venezuelan cheese sticks, Venezuelan mixed rice and Venezuelan ham bread are some of Venezuela's most famous dishes.
