Venezuela, officially the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, is a country located in Northern South America. It is not the only country in South America named after Simón Bolívar. Bolivia and its currency, the Bolivian Boliviano are both named after Simón Bolívar. In fact, Venezuela's currency, the Venezuelan Bolivar, is also named after Simón Bolívar.
So, you might be wondering, who is Simón Bolívar?
Well, he is an important liberator of six Latin American nations known as the Bolivarian countries. He served as the first presidents of Gran Colombia and Bolivia respectively.
He is also a key figure in Venezuelan history, having served as the only leader of its third republic. He also founded the Second Republic of Venezuela prior to this.

What is, or rather what was, Gran Colombia? Gran Colombia was a republic formed from the union of four states: Venezuela, Colombia, Panama and Ecuador. It only lasted 12 years and was founded by Simón Bolívar, who led the republic during the first 11 years of its existence, until his own existence came to an end when he died due to tuberculosis in the year 1830.
