Structure of the People's Assembly

The People's Assembly, previously called the Parliament, is the unicameral legislature of the Republic of Gvarii. The People's Assembly consists of 6 seats, each member is elected every 4 months by popular vote in a national / general election. During an election, the 2 best performing candidates for each constituency; Sutherfust, Wellston and Fukul, are elected. These constiuencies are mostly symbolic and ceremonial, with no distinct voter bases actually existing for each constituency, as the citizen population of Gvarii is too small for this. These constituencies mostly exist to allow the People's Assembly to have 6 seats. The members of the People's Assembly are known as MPAs for short and all have administrative roles. The People's Assembly currently consists of two political caucuses and 1 vacant seat, the Progressive Party Caucus, made up of 4 MPAs, and the People's Party Caucus, made up of 1 MPA. The Progressive Party Caucus, together with the People's Party Caucus, currently forms a coalition government called the People's Front for Progress, with 5 out of 6 seats. The remaining seat is vacant due to the suspension of former MPA Elliot from the People's Assembly.

Function of the People's Assembly

In the People's Assembly, laws that shape how the country is run are passed, along with day-to-day decisions which are decided through parliamentary voting. The members of the People's Assembly also holds significant executive powers; with the military, police, supreme court, general chat and other important areas, and the whole Whatsapp community in general coming under their control.

Along with its 6 elected members, the People's Assembly also includes Minister of Defence and Internal Security, Ethan N Widjaja, who is the country's first and only honorary member of the People's Assembly, appointed by His Presidency Danial Dasuki and approved unanimously by members of the People's Assembly.

The People's Assembly is in session on all weekdays, convening from Monday morning to Friday night. One session of the People's Assembly, thus lasts 5 days, or a working week. Each elected People's Assembly has about 17 sessions, as a new election commences to elect the MPAs every 4 months. The People's Assembly does not convene on weekends and public holidays.

History of the People's Assembly

Post General Election ( 28 July 2025 - 4 August 2025 )

The 1st Parliament of Gvarii was elected on 28 July 2025, after voting in the 1st Gvariian general election concluded the previous day. Following a parliamentary poll the following day before which MPA Aykan had suggested a name change to better reflect its identity and distinguish itself from Singapore's parliament, a simple / two-thirds majority voted for the name change to the People's Assembly. That day, ministerial roles were also assigned by the prime minister and an inauguration ceremony for MPAs Aykan and Nate as elected representatives for Fukul and Wellston and as Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Economy, respectively, was held in the general chat with His Presidency Danial Dasuki hosting the event. Both MPAs recited oaths of office written by MPA Aykan, pledging full loyalty, allegiance, commitment and service to the best of their abilities to the country.

The next major development in the People's Assembly was 2 days later, after members of the newly formed Emergency Meeting Council ( all members of the People's Assembly, minister of defence and internal security and a Deriskintan politician ) discovered chat evidence that the then prime minister for 4 days and elected representative for Sutherfust, Simon Tseng, had been secretly corresponding with the Deriskintan army and government, trying to become a head of their army and leaking information about chats in the People's Assembly of Gvarii to them. He also admitted to spying on the Republic of Gvarii by working as a secret agent from witihin. He was immediately suspended from the People's Assembly in a unanimous decision by the Council, with his role as prime minister revoked, leaving 1 vacant seat for Sutherfust Constituency.

This triggered the nation's first by-election, in which the election of a PPG member would result in its new leader becoming the 2nd Prime Minister of the country, and the election of a GDP member would result in a hung parliament. In the meantime, Yus, the law minister, was unanimously appointed by the People's Assembly as acting prime minister on the same day.

Post By-Election ( 5 August 2025 - Present )

The by-election was won by a GDP candidate, resulting in a hung parliament, in which both parties had equal seats. This required the President of Gvarii to exercise his veto power and choose a party to become the government. However as he was the leader of the GDP himself, he became prime minister as head of the ruling party. Not wanting to have all their laws vetoed as a result of the GDP forming the government and its leader being the president, members of the PPG Caucus protested this. This was when MPA Aykan, an Independent but PPG-affiliated member of the PPG Caucus, decided to form a new political party with GDP MPA WY, for greater MPA autonomy, for a better future and progress in Gvarii, and also because he was impressed by WY's record-breaking win margin of 61% in the by-election and wanted to break the GDP monopoly in the People's Assembly. Thus, on 6 August 2025, GDP and PPG MPAs WY and Aykan formed a new political party called the Gvariian Progressive Party ( GPP ). This party automatically had a third of the seats in the People's Assembly, with the other two parties each having a third of the seats as well. This caused Gvarii to have a tripartisan legislature for the first time in its history. On the day of its creation, MPA Aykan invited one of his close allies from the PPG, MPA Yus, to join his party. Yus agreed, giving the new party half of the seats and the highest number of seats in the People's Assembly, allowing it to form the government with it containing a former GDP member whose election into the People's Assembly ironically allowed it to form the government , replacing the former GDP government which had ruled for about 17 hours ( only 2 hours of discussion in the People's Assembly. This made the GDP government the shortest-serving government in Gvariian history, and its leader Dasuki the shortest-serving prime minister in Gvariian history. MPA Yus, who was appointed as leader of the GPP, susbequently succeeded Dasuki as prime minister. As a majority of GPP members were former PPG members who wanted more autonomy and did not oppose the PPG, the GPP Caucus subsequently formed a coalition government with the PPG Caucus called the People's Front for Progress, with 2/3 of seats in the People's Assembly. This arrangement was the first of its kind in Gvariian history.

The following day, Vosti left the GDP and Elliot was removed from the People's Assembly and party that day as he was found to have allowed another micronation to have annexed Gvariian land as the leader of the other country. This left the GDP with only 1 member, Dasuki, who disbanded the party, becoming Gvarii's first fully Independent MPA. This also left a vacant seat in the People's Assembly, granting an 80% control of non-vacant seats to the ruling People's Front for Progress. This also caused Gvarii to return to a bipartisan system, with one of its parties being different and the two being allied, and not opposed like previously.

Dasuki joined the GPP the following day, making all MPAs members of the ruling People's Front for Progress.
